The AI-related Quote

AI is a mirror, reflecting not only our intellect, but our values and fears.

The AI-ducation

Alan Turing's Influence

Alan Turing, often regarded as the father of AI, made groundbreaking contributions to artificial intelligence and computer science. His development of the Turing Test set a benchmark for machine intelligence, proposing that a machine could be considered intelligent if it could engage in human-like conversation.

During World War II, Turing played a crucial role in breaking the Enigma code, significantly aiding the Allied war effort. His concept of the Universal Turing Machine laid the foundation for modern computing.

Despite facing persecution for his homosexuality, Turing's legacy endures, celebrated through the annual Turing Award, which honors significant contributions to computing. His work continues to inspire advancements in AI and beyond.

Introducing Perplexity AI

Launched in July 2022, the startup Perplexity AI aims to revolutionize the internet search experience. Focusing on the reliability and relevance of its results, Perplexity AI seeks to transform how users navigate and discover information online. Founded by Aravind Srinivas, a former engineer at OpenAI and Google, this American startup has made it its mission to build "the best response engine in the world: a search engine people trust to discover and expand their knowledge." With a funding round of nearly $74 million in early 2024 from notable investors like Nvidia, Elad Gil, and Jeff Bezos, Perplexity AI has an ambitious goal of becoming a leading challenger to the established giants of online search, starting with Google.

What are LLMs?

Large Language Models (LLMs) are sophisticated AI systems designed to understand and generate human language. Built on deep learning algorithms and trained on vast amounts of text data, LLMs can perform various language-related tasks, such as translation, summarization, and conversation. The most famous example of an LLM is OpenAI's GPT-4, which generates coherent text based on prompts.

The underlying technology of LLMs involves transformers, a model architecture that excels at handling sequential data and capturing long-range dependencies within text. This allows LLMs to maintain context over long passages and produce accurate, fluent text. Applications of LLMs span content creation, customer support, code generation, and educational assistance.

However, LLMs also face challenges like producing biased or inaccurate content due to the training data. They can sometimes be overly verbose or factually incorrect. Ongoing research aims to improve LLMs, addressing these issues and enhancing their effectiveness and responsible use in human-computer interactions.

#3 - UNESCO warns on AI

A new UNESCO report warns that Generative AI poses a significant threat to Holocaust memory by potentially distorting historical facts and spreading antisemitism. The report highlights that AI can be exploited to create disinformation and hate-fueled narratives, and may inadvertently generate false content about the Holocaust. With 80% of young people using AI regularly, there is an urgent need to integrate ethical principles into AI development to prevent the spread of misinformation. UNESCO urges governments and tech companies to adopt its ethical guidelines and work with educators and Holocaust experts to safeguard historical accuracy and promote digital literacy among youth.
